As one of Stratford's most historic buildings, Alice Billing House is entering its next phase of refurbishment, converting the Grade II listed North Block from Fire house and accommodation into a cultural hub of artist studios and community spaces.
Join us on Saturday, 17th May to make and decorate ceramic porcelain wall tiles. Guided by Beverley, you will learn several different ceramic decorative techniques using materials that have been gathered and processed from the building. These include brick fragments, roof slate tiles and ashes, soot and debris from the interior fireplaces.
Everyone will make three/ four tiles, one of which will be for you to keep. The other tiles will become a community-created wall mural and will become part of the newly refurbished space. By using the materials from this heritage site, you will make your mark to create new stories, with every tile being signed and dated by each individual maker, as your contribution to the next chapter of Alice Billing House.
Workshops led by Beverley Sommerville Ceramics, as part of her artist-in-residence.
All materials are included, but please bring an apron.
