Creative and Community Partners

We work with a wide range of artists, organisations, and communities to deliver a vibrant programme of workshops, residencies, and events at Alice Billing House. From London Craft Week to South Asian Heritage Month, Black History Month, and Newham Heritage Month nad local universities, our collaborations celebrate heritage, creativity, and community voices.

  • UEL and CSM

We worked with the University of East London (UEL) and Central St Martins (CSM) on a project called ‘What is Missing'? This project brought together researchers, lecturers, students, and collaborators from Grow Studios, Creative Land Trust, Purcell Architects, and the London Borough of Newham, to create a shared space for dialogue, learning, and exploration around Stratford’s civic future.

  • Creative Futures Festival

This annual festival connects, educates, and inspires current and future creative talent, bringing together the best of the UK’s creative and business communities. In 2024, we collaborated with Andy McManus on an installation and interactive map. For 2025, artist Ramaa Sharma will lead a student workshop exploring ‘Missing Data, Missings Voices in age of AI’.

  • Open House Festival

Every September, as part of Open City’s Open House Festival, we open the doors to Alice Billing House, inviting visitors to explore our artists’ studios. In 2025, the event on Sat 20 September will also showcase Inspector of Nuisances, our contribution to Newham Heritage Month, celebrating the stories, spaces, and communities that make London unique.

  • Newham Heritage Month

Newham Heritage Month is an annual festival organised by Newham Council, celebrating the borough’s rich heritage and diversity. In 2025, the theme is Newham and 60, and we are taking part with our project ‘Inspector of Nuisances’. Across the month, a wide range of events will shine a light on the stories, people, and places that have shaped Newham.

  • Black History Month

In the UK, Black History Month takes place every October, offering an opportunity to share, celebrate, and reflect on the impact of Black heritage and culture. In 2024, Marilyn J Fontaine was our artist-in-residence, and this year we will host a workshop inspired by the theme Standing Firm in Power and Pride.

  • South Asian Heritage Month

Each year, from 18 July to 17 August, South Asian Heritage Month celebrates the vibrant cultures, histories, and communities of South Asia. For 2025, artist-in-residence Ramaa Sharma is contributing to our time capsule project- exploring what memories, stories, and treasures we should preserve for future generations.

  • London Craft Week

To mark London Craft Week 2025, artist-in-residence Beverley Sommerville hosted a workshop and created a body of ceramic work, Made of Matter. The project celebrates the building, its heritage, histories, and stories, while exploring ideas of place during a time of change and development.

  • Local Artists and Organisations

Since opening the South Block and Project Space in January 2025, we’ve been running workshops and events, hosting residencies with local artists, and making the project space at Alice Billing House available for community use.
