MADE IN HOUSE 2024-2026
Celebrating work made at Alice Billing House during its first two years of opening (2024-26), a selection of artwork by studio holders and artists-in-residence has been installed along the hoarding of the old courthouse, adjacent to Alice Billing House.
As work continues on the next phase of the building’s restoration, we have installed artwork on the hoarding adjacent to Alice Billing House, transforming it into an exhibition of work by artists connected to the building. Titled Made in House, 2024–2026, the project brings together artworks by current studio holders alongside artists who have previously taken part in residencies and creative projects at Alice Billing House.
Alice Billing House is a working creative site, home to artists and makers who make, experiment and develop their practices every day. In addition, we run an engagement programme where people from the local community co-create artwork, including work made for the Speculative ReMemory project, the Supper Cloth and Tiles in Tales.
Tucked away, much of this activity can go unnoticed by people passing by. The hoarding offers an opportunity to share a glimpse of the creativity taking place inside and give the wider public a sense of the bustling creative community at Alice Billing House.
Alice Billing House consists of a South Block, which opened in 2024 and houses the current studio holders, and a North Block, which is currently undergoing major renovations. Once complete, the North Block will provide a further 11 studios and pavilion space for creative activity.
The artworks offer a snapshot of what has been Made in House during the South Block’s first years of its new life.
With work underway to transform the North Block and create further studios and new spaces for public making and participation, Alice Billing House is continuing to evolve. Due to the ongoing renovations, Open Studios will not be held this year, making the hoarding exhibition an alternative window for the public to see the creative work happening behind closed doors. We look forward to opening the studios again in September 2027.
